Fill In The Blank vs. Multiple Choice
Tina Simons is running in an election with no names pre-filled on the ballot
We’re in a system and play by the rules those who want to control us have given. (And they don’t play by their own rules, often.)
The upcoming Nov 5 election has many storylines.
But I’d like to introduce you to Tina Simons from Kanabec County.
She’s running for County Commissioner, District 2.
There are also two other write-in candidates.
Zero Candidate Names on the Ballot
But there are Zero (0) candidate names on the printed ballots (absentee/mail-in) and will be Zero (0) names on the polling place paper ballots when voters vote on election day.
What does this mean?
First, voters will have to research the candidates and physically WRITE the name of the person they want to represent them.
Second, those ballots will have to be COUNTED BY HAND.
Because the current tech in the scanners isn’t programmed to tally Write-Ins.
This reminds me of a post written by someone else about how our ballots ARE DESIGNED for computers, not for humans.
Elections Designed for the People?
So, what if we thought about DESIGNING BALLOTS and, wait for it… DESIGNING ELECTIONS FOR THE PEOPLE.
It doesn’t benefit us to be told who to vote for by Taylor Swift so that the Star Trib can make a statistical fallacy suggesting Minnesota voter registrations increased because Swift endorsed Walz to cover for the fake or illegal immigrant registrations magically appearing in the behind-the-scenes databases which are very difficult for the public to access. End rant.
Think of it, what if we actually DESIGNED ELECTIONS FOR THE PEOPLE?
What would we do differently?
In this case, with the Write-In campaign, Tina has done the work to think about what she stands for and how she will represent the people—”LISTENING TO THE PEOPLE”—I just love this. (To see brochure, keep scrolling!)
And then taking these brochures door-to-door, leaving one behind if there is no answer and no conversation.
How many people have actually met the candidates they are voting for?
We have a chance to RE-DESIGN many things.
That can happen once everyone is SHOWN how poorly designed the current system is.
On another note: It is beautiful that the people are learning with some of the city and town reps (see The Oak Grove Way). It is not beautiful that government employees at the OSS and at the county level including election managers and auditors are blocking improvements to election transparency, and the Minnesota Legislature scrambling to change rules each session passing “laws” (election codes). But the people are becoming wise to their methods.
We will have integrity. Just a matter of time. Not if, only when.
